For the past 9 years National Skills Week has been an important platform to showcase the positive messages, the talents, the skills, the career pathways and the value of apprentices and trainees across Australia to the wider public and employers. It’s dedicated to raising the awareness, and highlighting the value of practical and vocational learning.
This year WorkVentures is celebrating 40 years as the oldest IT social enterprise. We like to think we were ahead of the curve recognising different career pathways for a variety of people. It was important 40 years ago, and continues to be important – even more so with traditional University pathways not suiting every young person. Traineeships can provide an alternative career path, combining paid work with on-the-job training and online study to complete a nationally recognised qualification in a supportive work environment.
Don’t believe us? Let some of our trainees tell you about their experiences…..
“The experience you get from a traineeship is the best thing about mine. You get that piece of paper and the experience you need for a real job. You are also supported throughout the entire traineeship, because at the end of the day everyone wants to see you succeed. I am very proud of what I have achieved.”Mia – Cert III and Cert IV Business

“Being able to be placed into a position with or without experience and then learning the industry with hands-on training and you get rewarded with a qualification was the best thing a traineeship offered me. It did wonders for my development, self-esteem and future career awareness. If someone is considering a Traineeship, my suggestion would be – don’t think, just do it!Jason – Cert III and Cert IV Business(Jason is now working for a leading Australian education provider that focuses on courses in business, management and leadership). |
